| I hope you are planning to join us for a fascinating and timely program on Sunday morning, Nov. 2, as we invited our friend Rabbi Melissa Weintraub, founder of Encounter," a group that encourages grassroots dialogue between Jewish and Palestinian leaders.
Many of us know Rabbi Weintraub, who was our rabbinic intern at USH in 2003-04. She is an outstanding speaker and teacher, recently named by the New York Jewish Week on their list of young up-and-coming Jewish leaders. See http://www.thejewishweek.com/viewArticle/c371_a11488/News/36_Under_36_TNW.html.
Rabbi Weintraub's "Encounter" organization has had tremendous success bringing Jewish leaders, from all across the Jewish religious and political spectrums, on study tours to Palestinian communities for dialogue with Palestinian leaders. See http://www.encounterprograms.org/home.html for information about the program. And see http://encounterprograms.org/alumni.html#accounts for some reactions from past participants in the program, including students at Orthodox yeshivot and Conservative and Reform rabbinical schools. Rabbi Weintraub will discuss her passion for facilitating dialogue between people who disagree and the importance of putting a human face on national and international conflicts.
Also participating in Sunday's presentation will be USH member Amelia Hollander Ames (daughter of Janet and Charlie), and former USH rabbinic intern Rabbi Elie Kaunfer, both of whom have participated in the Encounter program in Israel.
